About Oakridge |
Message from the PrincipalOakridge is a great school! The students, staff and community are hard working and committed to learning together. We are a K-8 school, located in the southend of St. Catharines. We are bordered on the west and north by a scenic ravine, and Oakridge School functions in two specific capacities. Neighbourhood students attend from Kindergarten to Grade 8 before moving to Sir Winston Churchill S.S. Beginning in Grade 7, the school boundaries are extended to include students from the two local K - 6 feeder schools, Glen Ridge and Briardale. In addition, Oakridge is one of three host schools in St. Catharines for the Grade 5, 7 & 8 Extended French Program. Students from eleven neighbouring public schools have access to this program through an application process that begins in February. Beginning in September 2012, we will also have grade 6 French Immersion. There are many ways to get involved at Oakridge. Students can be part of our Eco Club, sports teams, choirs, orff ensembles, community care food drive, Rankin Run fundraiser, chess club, library helper, intramurals, and the list goes on and on. There's something for everyone to participate in. Grade six students from Glenridge, Briardale and Oakridge go camping together in the spring. This gives them an opportunity to meet each other before grade seven starts in the fall. Students in grades seven and eight travel to Ottawa every other year to participate in their year end trip. Oakridge Eagles pursue the DSBN goal of Achieving Success Together. We work as a team to help make this happen. We put forth our best effort, encourage each other and treat others the way we want to be treated. I am so priviledged to be the principal of Oakridge. Thank you for your continued support. Mrs. Laurene Klassen
